My international travel adventures for this year have come to an end. What an incredible journey it has been! So much accomplished, so much seen, and so much learned.
Earlier this month, I hosted a retreat in Hong Kong together with Susan Bögels. It is always special to lead a retreat abroad. We dedicate a lot of attention to aligning the retreat with the local culture. In Hong Kong, we delved deeper into themes such as shame and anger, emotions that are often less accessible or harder to discuss within Chinese culture.
By exploring these themes, the retreat became a truly unique experience. New exercises and practices not only helped the participants but also contributed significantly to my own growth as a retreat teacher.
One of the things I often say is that this retreat is about storytelling. I’ve noticed that I am becoming better at sharing my own story. During the retreat, I guided a session about healing within our ancestral lines. The concept of “Indisch zwijgen” (Indonesian silence) plays a role in my own family history. Over time, I have learned to better understand the pain associated with it and have started to share that story. Traveling abroad over the years has also allowed me to deepen my connection to my own ancestors and their struggles.
With winter approaching, this is a perfect time to turn inward. I’m planning to write longer blog posts soon, which will be published here on the website. For me, retrieving those lost stories in my family lines is a way to connect to my family history.
In the coming period, I’ll be spending more time in the acupuncture studio. If you’d like to schedule an acupuncture consultation before the end of the year, appointments are available in the week of December 16. Feel free to send me a message or book your session online.
Below, I share some photos from the ten days I spent in Hong Kong.
