After months of traveling and just returning from leading a retreat in China, I’m back in my acupuncture studio. Alongside my work in the clinic, I also guide retreats, being a retreat leader is a continuation of my role as a teacher. Previously, I was a mindfulness trainer, yoga teacher and teacher trainer, in previous professions I have guided many people in their personal development. Now with guiding retreats, my passion for teaching comes together with my knowledge of meditation and yoga and personal growth.
We are often asked, “Why do you travel to Asia to give retreats? Don’t meditation and mindfulness have their roots in the East? Don’t they have their own meditation teachers there?”
However, our retreats have a therapeutic focus. We combine elements of psychotherapy with mindfulness meditation techniques, which gives it a unique and innovative approach. The central theme of our retreat is ‘reparenting ourselves’ – the process of learning to care for and heal ourselves in new ways. We explore this during five days of silence, which often provides participants profound insights.
Earlier this month, we held our retreat in China. It was a special experience for me, and I’ll share more about it in a separate blog post. While leading the retreat in China, I realized that my own story about the ‘Indisch zwijgen’ (the ‘Indonesian silencing’) – a theme that runs in my family as well – resonated more deeply with me. I plan to share this story here on my website.
In November, I’ll be leading another retreat with Susan Bögels in Hongkong, this is the next adventure I’m very much looking forward to.
This past summer, I traveled a lot and therefore did not take on new patients in my acupuncture studio. Now that I’m back from China, I’m happy to announce that my clinic is open again for new patients. I now have more time and can help support you on your path to a balanced and healthy life!
Below are some photos from our trip. After the retreat in China, we had a few days to explore and travel around. More pics on my Instagram account, will you follow me there?
