Romantic Observations
Februari 19, 2005

We are not looking at reality when viewing photo’s taken by the Hubble telescope. Actually Hubble sends black and white pictures back to earth and these are afterwards coloured in by astonomists using scientific data. Yet often intentionally mimicking romantic landscape paintings. Thus emphasizing the savageness of nature and meant to overwhelm the observer. Via Noorderlog & Hubble website
What will love be like in 2046?
Februari 19, 2005

Through the rain we bicycled in the the early evening to the cinema to see Won Kar Wei’s latest masterpiece 2046. We arrived soaking wet and the Rialto cinema was cold. They seemed unable to properly heat the place. We shivered for two hours.
Great movie, stunning cinematography though.

This is a WordPress 1.5 test. I upgraded my blog software and so far everything seems to be working fine. Some missing images and a lot of validation errors. But this blogpage has no problems if you browse with Mozilla. I don’t like Internet Explorer anyway; you should discard it.

Shiva Lingam
Februari 11, 2005
I took this picture in India last September. Varanasi is sprawled with Shiva Lingams. In meditation we call it the “seat of the mind”.
“The non anthropomorphic Lingam form of Shiva is what is held in reverence in temples all over the Indian sub continent. The Lingam is a symbol. It is a symbol of that which is invisible yet omnipresent. It is hence a a visible symbol of the Ultimate Reality which is present in us (and in all objects of creation ).” text from Templenet.
Happy Chinese New Year
Februari 9, 2005
The year of the rooster.
Legend has it that the Lord Buddha summoned all the animals to come before him before he departed from the earth. Only twelve animals came to bid him farewell and as a reward he named each year after the animals in the order they arrived. According to a different legend, the animals were quarreling about who should head the cycle of years. When asked to decide, the gods suggested a contest. Whoever reached the bank of a certain river first would head the cycle and the rest of the animals would be listed accordingly. All the animals lined up and the ox jumped in. Unknown to him, the rat was on his back and stepped ashore first. From bbc.co.uk

After a stressful day at the job, taking the train back to Amsterdam and DJ Rupture is firing Special Gunpowder Kirtans to my eardrums, aaah ever so relaxing.
